A Bit of Hydro History

Founded in 1986 by Don McCredie, the brand started as an idea after years of participating and winning in surfing and swimming activities at the local beaches in Australia. Don was also a professional firefighter and active member of the Coogee Surf Club.

Don's interest in fluid dynamics and water flow grew over the years after competing in numerous bodysurfing competitions and several trips to Hawaii in the 1980's. He wanted to design and develop a type of swim propulsion fin that would reform his favourite water sport.

The very first product they introduced was the Hydro Finz. This fin has a unique "V" rail design which acted like small 8-degree surfboard fins to add traction. Six sizes were produced by a rubber company and the product was manufactured for export to the USA, Australia, Europe and Japan.
