Wetsuit gloves often stretch after several wearings. This is because the neoprene memory material will keep your hand shape over time. When you buy a wetsuit glove, measure your hands before purchasing. Measure the circumference of your palm (from widest point of your hand). You may want to go a size up or down. Choosing the right size is critical to keeping your hands warm and comfortable. We normally advise to go as tight as comfortably possible.
After every use, clean your wetsuit gloves. The salt and other chemicals found in salty water will damage your gloves. Rinse thoroughly and allow them to air dry. Drying them inside out helps prevent mould and fungus growth. Finally, store your wetsuit gloves flat. Folding them causes permanent crease marks on them and can also damage the neoprene. If you have a pair of wetsuit gloves with the wrong size, it may cause them to stretch and lose their shape.
When purchasing your first wetsuit, think about the activities you plan to do in it. For example, wakeboarders and kayakers can wear thinner gloves, while surfers and divers tend to go for thicker gloves. Depending on where you're going to be surfing or diving, you may be able to get away with a 1mm pair. However, if you want to have finger movement, go for a 3mm pair.
When choosing wetsuit gloves, keep in mind the type of activity you plan to participate in. The gloves should have a lightly textured inner surface for better grip. You can choose a glove with multiple palms and a webbed palm for added paddle power. And if you're planning on swimming, try a pair of neoprene gloves that allow you to use your fingers. However, if you don't plan on swimming, regular 5-fingered gloves will probably work best.
