The company's founder, Keith Hufnagel, grew up in and skated the gritty streets of New York City in the late 1980's. It was in 1992 when he moved to San Francisco to pursue his love for skateboarding.

Keith opened the first Huf store in 2002. It wasn't an exclusive skate brand or shop at the onset. Instead, the store carried other brands particularly those that cater to the streetwear market. The brand kicked off soon after the shop opened since Keith and his buddies were also making hats and printing t-shirts.

Over the years, the company evolved into an independent producer of premium footwear, apparel and skate accessories that represent the counter-cultures of its roots. Also, Huf is a retailer and wholesaler with over 200 accounts within and outside of the United States.

According to Keith's ex-wife/business partner, he always wanted to create Huf's own line of shoes. They are aware of the challenges and added pressure in the manufacturing of Huf's skate shoes in-house.
